Acronyms & Abbreviations
The below list of shorthand is courtesy of Siosilvar.
General Acronyms and Terms
- 1h - one-handed
- 2h - two-handed
- AoE - area of effect
- CD - cooldown
- cLoD - Classic Lord of Destruction (unmodded Diablo II)
- D2 - Diablo II
- DPS - damage per second
- DoT - damage over time
- Dump - to put any leftover points into something
- Elemental - Fire, Cold, Lightning, and Poison
- GS - Game Server
- LCS - Lying Character Screen (so named because it does several things wrong, most notably including elemental spell damage on weapon attacks that don't actually benefit from it)
- MXL - Median XL
- Namelock - clicking and holding on an enemy to continuously attack them
- Regen - regeneration (usually of life or mana)
- ST - single target
- TSW - The Sin War, the official game servers run by the Median XL team
- Zdps - Zero damage per second, usually an exaggeration to say that something does very low damage
- HC - hardcore
- SC - softcore
- Early game - The game from level 1 to around 115-120, where most things can be done with deterministically created gear like tiered uniques and honorifics.
- Midgame - The part of the game where characters typically need to upgrade out of tiered uniques and into set or crafted items and common sacred uniques, usually around level 120-130.
- Lategame - The part of the game where characters upgrade to better and rarer gear, with some SSU items and better crafted jewels.
- Endgame - Attempting the higher tiers of Dimensional Labyrinth, Samael, and/or Deimoss.
Levels
- Alvl - Area Level or Affix Level
- Blvl - Base Level (of a skill, the number of skill points put into it)
- Clvl - Character Level
- Ilvl - Item Level (either the level of a specific item drop or the minimum monster level to drop a specific unique or set item)
- Mlvl - Monster Level (equal to area level, or higher for some boss monsters)
- Slvl - Skill Level
- Qlvl - Quality Level (minimum item level for a specific base item to appear)
- Smax - supermax, to put as many base levels into a skill as possible

- WTB - want to buy
- WTS - want to sell
- WTT - want to trade
- ISO - in search of
- N - need
- O - offering
- tg - trade gold
Stats
- Str - strength
- Dex - dexterity
- Vit, Vita - vitality
- Ene, NRG - energy
- AA - all attributes (strength, dexterity, vitality, and energy)
- Ele - elemental (fire, cold, lightning, and poison)
- Phys - physical
- Lite - lightning
- Psn - poison
- Rainbow, FCL, F/C/L - fire, cold, and lighting
- Res, resist - resistance
- PR, DR - Physical Resistance (known as Damage Reduction in unmodded Diablo II)
- MR - Maximum Elemental Resistances or Magic Resistance
- PLR - Poison Length Reduced
- PDR, MDR - Physical/Magic Damage Reduced, a flat damage reduction calculated before % resist
- Pierce - -% enemy resistance
- WDM - A skill that deals % Weapon Damage.
- ED - Enhanced Damage or Enhanced Defense. Local bonus to the base damage or defense on the item that has it, added before flat damage and defense bonuses.
- EWD - % Enhanced Weapon Damage, sometimes called % Weapon Physical Damage or just % Physical Damage. Global multiplier to weapon damage after flat damage bonuses. Adds to the strength/dexterity damage bonus.
- TCD - % Bonus to Defense, previously known as Total Character Defense. Global multiplier to all your defense.
- Min - Minimum (usually minimum damage)
- Max - Maximum (usually maximum damage)
- CB - Crushing Blow, chance to deal 25% of enemy life on weapon damage hits (doesn't work on bosses)
- DS - Deadly Strike, chance to double your physical weapon damage
- AR - Attack Rating. More AR increases your chance to hit with weapon damage skills.
- Def - Defense. More defense makes you be hit less often by enemy attacks.
- ITD - Ignore Target Defense. Enemy defense is counted as 0 (doesn't work on bosses)
- SD - Spell Damage
- FSD - Fire Spell Damage
- CSD - Cold Spell Damage
- LSD - Lightning Spell Damage
- PSD - Poison Spell Damage
- PMSD - Physical and Magic Spell Damage
- SF - Spell Focus
- EF - Energy Factor, an old stat that became Spell Focus.
- Leech, LL, ML - % life/mana stolen per hit. Restores life or mana equal to part of the physical weapon damage you deal (with some other reductions based on the difficulty and target hit).
- LoMA, MoMA, LoA, MoA - Life/Mana on Melee Attack. Restores life or mana once when a melee attack hits a target directly.
- LoS, MoS - Life/Mana on Striking. Restores life or mana on any weapon damage hit.
- LAEK, MAEK - Life/Mana After Each Kill. Works for any monster that you kill - summons and mercenary kills don't count.
- FPA - Frames Per Action. Animations in Diablo II can only take an integer number of frames to complete, known as their FPA.
- IAS - Attack Speed (Increased Attack Speed)
- FCR - Cast Speed (Faster Cast Rate)
- FHR - Hit Recovery (Faster Hit Recovery)
- FBR - Block Speed (Faster Block Rate)
- FRW - Move Speed (Faster Run/Walk)
- GF - Gold Find, but more often The Grandfather
- MF - Magic Find
- CBF, CNBF - Cannot Be Frozen
- IED - Innate Elemental Damage; either an item with innate elemental damage like Crystal Sword or the stat that increases the damage scaling on those items.
- Sk - + to All Skills (sometimes + to a specific class's skills)
Item Qualities
- Eth - Ethereal. Weapons and armor can drop ethereal, which gives them 25% better physical damage or defense but they cannot be repaired.
- Os, sock - socketed
- Sup - Superior
- Grey, white - Nonmagical (normal or superior) items. The name of a normal or superior item will be grey if the item has sockets or is ethereal, and white otherwise.
- Blue - Magic item
- Yellow - Rare item
- RW - Runeword
- Hono - Honorific. Made by cubing a magic item (blue) with the Mark of Infusion dropped by Shenk at the end of the first area in act 5 on all difficulties.
- Lucky - Lucky bonus, a small bonus that has a chance to be added to an item by cubing it with a (greater) oil of luck. See the cube recipes documentation for details.
- Lotto - Lottery bonus, a bigger bonus with a 3% chance to be added to an item by cubing it with a specific charm. See the cube recipes documentation for details.
- Craft - Shrine or jewel crafting, or a shrine or jewel crafted item.
- Bless - Shrine blessing a sacred rare, crafted, or honorific item by cubing it with a shrine + 2 arcane crystals (+ optional Oil of Intensity).
- T1, T2, T3, T4 - tier 1 through 4 base items. Sometimes also different levels of the Dimensional Labyrinth.
- TU - Tiered unique
- SU, SSU, SSSU - Sacred uniques of different item levels and rarity. SU - item level 105. SSU - item level 120 or 125. SSSU - item level 130.

- Ammy - amulet
- AotOR - Armor of the Old Religion
- Astro - Astrogha's Moon or Astrogha the uber boss
- Athulua's - usually Athulua's Wrath, sometimes Athulua's Oracle
- Avalor - Arkaine's Valor
- Barn door - Setzschild, an amazon shield base
- BMR - Bad Mood (formerly known as Bad Mood Ring)
- BSS - Black Sun Spear
- Cbarr, cbarrier - Celestial Barrier
- CFM - Crystalline Flame Medallion, the reward for the Judgment Day dungeon
- Class Charm - Class-specific reward from the Ennead Challenge
- CotW - Cornerstone of the World, an old name for Relics
- Ele dom - Elemental Dominion
- Emp Glory - Empyrean Glory
- Erune - Enchanted Rune
- GF - The Grandfather
- Hench, henchie - Henchmen Trophies
- Java - Javelin (of any kind)
- Hat - any kind of helm or circlet
- HoG - Hand of God (two-handed paladin hammer)
- Idol - Idol of Stars
- Laz - Archbishop Lazarus, the uber boss of the same name, or the creator of Median XL (Brother Laz) who they were named after
- Lootbox - Treasure of Fiacla-Gear dropped by corrupted druids in Scosglen. Cubed with an enchanted rune for random item drops (influenced by the level of the rune used).
- MO - Mystic Orbs, usually the ones bought from vendors (in contrast with the drop-only Unique Mystic Orbs)
- Nagi - Naginata (or halberd)
- Nat's - usually Natasha's Legacy, rarely Natalya's Deception
- Path - Path of Brutality
- Pbite - Panthera's Bite
- Pgem - Perfect gem
- QoG - Queen of Glass
- Sag - Sagittarius
- SBS - Strength Beyond Strength
- SotD - Scales of the Drake
- SotS - Scales of the Serpent
- Sunstone - usually Sunstone of the Twin Seas, not Sunstone of the Gods
- Swalker - Spirit Walker
- Timedaddy - Timefather
- Titans - Titan's Revenge
- Tyrone's - Tyrael's Might
- Umbaru - Umbaru Treasure from Teganze
- UMO - any Unique Mystic Orb
- Viz - Vizjerei, used in the name of some items like viz fury (Vizjerei Fury) or viz nec (Vizjerei's Necklace)
- Wakes - Wake of Destruction
- Xbow, xbox - Crossbow (of any kind)
- Xis - Xis rune, used to be a component for crafting enchanted runes but was removed after a rework to enchanted runes in Sigma 2.0
- Zaka - Curse of the Zakarum
- Zayls - either Zayl's Temptation or Zayl's Soul Orb
- ZKT - Zular Khan's Tempest

OSkills - A skill gained from items that can be used by any character. If the skill is one your character already has (for example, a Sorceress putting on Hide of the Basilisk), the oskill bonus is limited to +3 total per character (not just per item). This includes skills from relics. proc, ctc - A skill with a % chance to cast on some condition.

- HoZ, hammer - Hammer of Zerae (amazon projectile attack that works like clod's Blessed Hammer)
- IBN - Ice Bolt Nova (oskill cold spell)
- LF - Lightning Fury (oskill lightning ... spell?)
- LL, limp - Limpet Laser (oskill cold spell for assassins)
- MM - Magic Missile (amazon magic spell)
- MotW - Mark of the Wild (druid innate physical weapon and spell damage buff)

- RC - Rathma's Chosen (physical weapon necromancer ultimate)
- RD - Rising Dawn (oskill magic spell that deals maximum damage at skill level 28)
